Projects
Split bearing covers are used across a wide range of industries — steel production, food processing, metal packaging, and railroad operations — wherever large rotating shafts need to be supported by pillow block or split-pillow bearing assemblies. These covers clamp around the bearing housing to retain the bearing in position, and they accumulate grease, metal fines, and process contaminants that must be removed during scheduled maintenance.
In this project, Calumet Chicago cleaned a set of split bearing covers that support bearings in a steel-making process. The covers arrived caked in old grease mixed with metal scale and particulate — the kind of contamination that hardens over time and resists casual wipe-down methods. They were loaded into a Cuda aqueous parts washer, and the hot-water spray cycle dissolved and flushed away the buildup, leaving clean mating surfaces critical for proper bearing alignment and torque values.
Proper cleaning of split bearing covers is not cosmetic — it is functional. Contamination trapped between the cover and the housing can prevent proper seating, leading to misalignment that shortens bearing life and increases the risk of unexpected failure. For operations running continuous production lines, an unplanned bearing failure can mean hours of lost output.
Calumet Chicago provides Cuda aqueous parts washers to maintenance departments in steel mills, food processing plants, packaging facilities, and railroad shops — all environments where split bearing assemblies are routinely serviced. Whether you need a compact top-loader for smaller covers or a front-load model rated for heavy components, we can match the right Cuda washer to your application.
